Family Food Drive held at China Lake
The 2012 Feds Feed Families drive was held at China Lake on July 16th for the fourth year in a row according to the Rocketeer II. The program is a government-side effort which is held in conjunction with the Department of Defense and other federal agencies and led by the Chief Human Capital Officers Council. China Lake contributed over 1.5 million pounds of food to the cause to fill nationwide food banks. More than 3,800 pounds of food was distributed to the Salvation Army, the Navy and Marine Corps Relief Society and the Inyokern Senior Center as well as others. Food will continue to be collected until August 31st in the many food bins provided on China Lake.
Food Drive Chairman Chaplain Lieutenant Derrick Horne noted, “In today’s current economic times, families are struggling to not only pay their monthly bills but also to put food on the table. The Feds Feed Families program allows all of us here, at China Lake, to make a difference and help stock the shelves of the local charities that assist them.” A list of collection locations is provided as well as a list of acceptable items on the China Lake website. For more information about the food drive, contact Chaplain Lieutenant Derrick Horne at 760-939-3056 or call the NAWS Public Affairs Office at 760-939-1283.
