Welcome to NS Pearl Harbor

Naval Station Pearl Harbor is a deep-water base located on the island of Oahu, Hawaii, in the city of Honolulu, home to the U.S. Pacific Fleet.

The base is the site of the historic attack by the Japanese on December 7th, 1941 that caused the United States to enter World War II.

The harbor was not originally used for large ships due to its shallow entrance. The Naval Shipyard was established in 1908, and the Naval Station experienced continuous growth until 1919. At that point Pearl Harbor's channels were dredged and enlarged, and a dry dock was constructed. In 1917, Ford Island was purchased for joint Army and Navy use for military aviation in the Pacific.

As of January, 2010, Hickam Air Force Base and Pearl Harbor Naval Base were combined to form Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam. The airfield shares its runway with Honolulu International Airport, and the joint base is home to the Air Force's 15th Wing.

Weather in the Pearl Harbor area tends to be warm in the summer with temperatures in the 70s and mild in the winter with the temperatures in the 60s. Annual rainfall in the area is 28 inches with the wettest month being December, but rainfall is steady around the year. September is the warmest month, and February is the coldest.
