Naval Air Station Whidbey Island is a naval air station located in two sections. There are 19 active duty squadrons based at NAS Whidbey Island. The air station is home to a Search and Rescue Unit and three flying Sikorsky MH-60S Nighthawks. The search and rescue provides 24 hours day and night maritime, inland and mountainous rescue support for the Department of Defense personnel and for the great Pacific Northwest area. Naval Air Station Whidbey Island is also home to the SeaPlane Base where the commissary and Navy Exchange are both located.
