Welcome to NAS Jacksonville

Naval Air Station Jacksonville is located just south of Jacksonville, Florida, and a hub for naval activity in the southern United States.

NAS Jacksonville is home to the patrol Squadron Thirty, which trains US and NATO pilots, air crew, and maintenance personnel.

The site was the location of a National Guard base built for training soldiers in World War I, and later decommissioned. The land was acquired by the Navy in 1940, and officially commissioned later that year, and became part of the Jacksonville Navy Complex that came to include NAS Cecil Field and Naval Station Mayport. During World War II, more than 10,000 pilots and 11,000 aircrew were trained at the station. Three runways over 6,000 feet long were operated as sea ramps, and an overhaul and repair facility was built to work on the planes located at the station.

In the late 1940s, the first jet carrier air squadrons came to Jacksonville. By the mid-1950s, the station built an air traffic control center to be used by the Navy, Air Force, and Civil Aeronautics. By 1973, the station's main mission was antisubmarine warfare, after the assignment of Helicopter Antisubmarine Wing One. By then, the base's popularity had made it the most requested duty station in the Navy. Today, 23,000 active-duty personnel and civilians are employed at the base.

Weather in the Jacksonville area tends to be hot and very humid in the summer with temperatures in the 80s and 90s and cool in the winter with the temperatures in the 50s. Annual rainfall in the area is 48 inches with the wettest month being September.
