Welcome to MCAS Cherry Point

Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point is located in Havelock, North Carolina. It was opened in 1942. The air station's primary mission during World War II was to train Marines for combat in the Pacific theater. The air station also served as a base for anti-submarine operations, for the Army Air Corps and later a Navy air squadron. The air station is about one hour away from MCB Camp Lejeune and MCAS New River.

During the Korean War, MCAS Cherry Point provided a steady stream of trained aviators as replacements for deployed aviation units. During the Vietnam War, the installation provided A-6 intruder squadrons as well as replacements for deployed units. In Operation Desert Storm, Cherry Point was a major contributor to combat operations, supporting the deployment of three AV-8B Harrier squadrons and two A-6E intruder squadrons. Cherry Point was also actively involved in Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan starting in 2001.

Units aboard this station include the 2nd Marine Aircraft Wing, Combat Logistics Company 21, and the Fleet Readiness Center (East). The air station occupies 29,000 acres, and has a runway so large that it was designated as an alternate landing site for space shuttles.

Weather in the Cherry Point area tends to be warm in the summer with temperatures in the 70s and 80s, and cold in the winter with the temperatures in the 40s. Annual rainfall in the area is 57 inches with the wettest month being August.
