Welcome to Schofield Barracks

Schofield Barracks is a U.S. Army post located in the city of Honolulu, Hawaii. The barracks covers 17,000 acres of Central Oahu and was established in 1908 to provide mobile defense of Pearl Harbor and the island of Oahu. Schofield Barracks is named after Lieutenant General John McAllister Schofield who came to Hawaii in 1872 and recommended the establishment of the naval base at Pearl Harbor. The current population is 14,000 people. The post is home to the 8th Theater Sustainment Command as well as the Command Headquarters for the United States Army Hawaii. The complex includes the PX, the Commissary, the Library, Bowling Alley, and Uniform Clothing Store. Newly constructed barracks are more stylish and set up in an apartment type design. The majority of training areas on Schofield Barracks are large open areas that are ideal for air assault operations that require take off and landings.

Weather in the Schofield Barracks area tends to be warm in the summer with temperatures in the 70s and mild in the winter with the temperatures in the 60s. Annual rainfall in the area is 69 inches with the wettest month being December. September is the warmest month, and February is the coldest. Local housing options are available nearby in cities such as Wahiawa, Mililani Town, and Pearl City. Schofield Barracks lies adjacent to the town of Wahiawa but separated by most of it by Lake Wilson (a.k.a. Wahiawa Reservoir). The post covers a total 2.8 square miles of land. The 25th Infantry Division Memorial is a grouping of four statues on Schofield Barracks that represents the division’s soldiers who served in World War II, Korea, Vietnam, and the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq. The statue was unveiled in June 2005.
