Vandenberg Air Force Base is a United States military installation with a spaceport and is home to the 14th Air Force Wing, the 30th Space Wing, and the Western Launch and Test Range. The base is also home to the U.S. Missile Defense Agency which is responsible for all west coast missile launches for military and commercial organizations. The launches include intercontinental ballistic missiles. Vandenberg’s location on the Pacific Ocean makes it easy to launch satellites into polar orbit. Due to this location, the base is a good spot from which to launch reconnaissance satellites. The base is located near Santa Barbara, California whose economy is supported by education, technology, health care, manufacturing, and local government.
