Welcome to Hill AFB

Hill AFB is a major U.S. Air Force Base located in northern Utah, just south of the city Ogden and about 30 miles from Salt Lake City. It is the sixth-largest employer in the state, and was established in 1940 and became a key maintenance and supply base in World War II with 22,000 military and civilian workers by 1943. Round-the-clock operations supported the war effort during World War II, and Hill Air Force Base provided engine overhauls, structural repairs, and spare parts of many weary warplanes. The host unit at Hill Air Force Base is the Air Force Material Command’s 75th Air Base Wing which provides services and support for the Ogden Air Logistics Center. The Ogden Air Logistics Center is the manager for a wide range of aircraft, engines, missiles, software and accessories. The center is one of three of the United States Air Force’s Air Logistics Centers. Main units at the base include the 75th Air Base Wing, the 84th Combat Sustainment Wing, the 309th Maintenance Wing and the 388th Fighter Wing.

Weather in the Hill Air Force Base area tends to be warm in the summer with temperatures in the 70s and very cold in the winter with the temperatures in the 30s. Annual rainfall in the area is 20 inches with the wettest month being May. July is the warmest month, and January is the coldest. Local housing options are available nearby in cities such as Roy, Sunset, and Clearfield. During the 1960s, Hill Air Force Base performed maintenance support for various kinds of jet warplanes including the F-4 Phantom II during the Vietnam War and then more modern jets, such as the F-16 Fighting Falcons, and the C-130 Hercules. Air combat missiles systems and air-to ground rockets were also services that were provided and Hill Air Force Base continues to carry out these tasks to the present day.
