Davis-Monthan Air Force Base is a key Air Combat Command installation. It is host to the 355th Fighter Wing which offers support to the A-10 Thunderbolt II, air liaison officers, and provides initial training as well as recurrency training to Air Force pilots and crews. The wing is tasked with providing command, control, and communications countermeasures in support of tactical forces for contingency and emergency situations worldwide. Davis-Monthan is located near Tucson, Arizona where the second largest employer to the military base is the University of Arizona. High-tech industries also have a major effect on the economy as technology has become a mainstay in the community. Employers such as Texas Instruments, IBM, Universal Avionics, and Raytheon Missile Systems all call the Tucson area home. Tourism is also a large economic supporter in the Tucson area. Visitors come to the area to see the many annual festivals such as the Tucson Gem and Mineral Show, the Tucson Folk Festival and the TAWN Fall Festival. The city is full of art museums as well as historical museums including the Tucson Museum of Art, and the Titan Missile Museum.
The Tucson Unified School District offers over 25 elementary schools, 25 middles schools, and 25 public high schools as well as several private and charter schools. Amtrak offers passenger rail service six times weekly from coast to coast.
